Choosing a Surveyor

There is more to being a Marine Surveyor than printing cards and starting a business. Accreditation by an organization organization that requires members to meet strict professional, ethical and technical standards is one important way to determine which surveyor will provide the best service for you.

The surveyor should be able to provide you with a thorough, professional report that will be accepted by your bank and/or insurance company.

Don't be afraid to ask questions! What does the survey report include? What standards do they use in their surveys? How long will the survey take? How much will the inspection cost?

Every survey is different. How long it will take depends on the type of survey required, as well as,  the vessel size, equipment and on-board systems. Payment will be due on the day of the inspection.

While surveys can provide you will important information on your boat's condition, they are not guarantees. The surveyor can only report on the condition of accessible areas as they exist at the time of inspection.
