- Make sure your boat is clean and shipshape
- Have your any needed papers available
- Have any lockers and cabin areas cleared of miscellaneous gear
- If required, you will need to make arrangement with the marina to haul the boat for bottom inspection
- If required, you will be responsible to retain a captain for sea trials
- Be prepared to possibly be asked to dismantle flooring, interior ceilings or others areas if required
- Examination of below waterline fasteners may be required on wood boats.
- Have qualified personnel on hand for any required dismantling and re-installation that may be required
- When required, written authorization will be obtained to board and/or for removal of any part of the boat
- Remember, the surveyor works for you. You are their client and they answer to you. The surveyor is there to protect your interests.
- Be prepared to pay for the survey on the day of inspection.
Preparing for a Survey
Preparing your boat for inspection will help you save money, time and grief by making it more accessible for the surveyor. A surveyor should not be asked to prepare your boat for inspection.
